Kathmandu Chitwan Pokhara Tour Overview

Nepal surprises most people. They come expecting mountains and leave talking about everything else, the temples, the jungle, the lake, the food, the people. This 9 day trip covers all of it.

We start in Kathmandu, which is loud and messy but wonderful. You will visit Nepal’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath, Kathmandu Durbar Square, Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar Square. Three days here and you will barely scratch the surface but you will see the best of it – ancient temples, medieval cities and streets that feel like nothing else on earth.

Then we head down to Chitwan to explore the Chitrwan National Park, one of Nepal’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Jungle lodges, morning safaris, rhinos closer than you expect. It is a completely different Nepal down there.

After exploring Chitwan, we head to Pokhara, a city nestled in the lap of the Himalayas with the Annapurna range sitting eight behind it. Pokhara is quiet, beautiful with the Annapurna reflected in the lake on a clear morning. People come here for one night and end up staying a week.

Nine days, three destinations, one trip worth taking.

Places You Will Visit

Pashupatinath Temple
If there is one place in Kathmandu that will genuinely move you, this is it. Pashupatinath is one of the holiest Hindu temples in the world and it sits right on the Bagmati River. You will see sadhus covered in ash, families performing rituals, pilgrims who have walked days to get here. It is not a museum, it is very much alive and that is exactly what makes it so powerful.

Boudhanath Stupa
We take you here and just let you walk around it at your own pace. Boudhanath is one of the biggest Buddhist stupas in Asia and there is something about it that slows everything down. The prayer wheels, the monks, the smell of incense. Spend an hour here and you will not want to leave.

Swayambhunath
Most people know it as the Monkey Temple and yes, there are monkeys. But climb those stairs and what you find at the top is something special, a hilltop full of shrines, prayer flags and a view over the whole Kathmandu valley that is hard to forget. Worth every step.

Kathmandu Durbar Square
This is the old heart of Kathmandu where the kings lived, where history happened and where you really start to feel the age of this city. Temples, statues, open courtyards and locals going about their day right in the middle of it all. A UNESCO World Heritage Site that still feels completely real.

Patan Durbar Square
Patan is just across the river from Kathmandu but it feels like a different world. The Durbar Square here is quieter and in our opinion more beautiful than Kathmandu’s. The bronze work, the woodcarvings, the little Buddhist courtyards tucked behind temples. Patan has been producing master craftsmen for centuries and you can see why.

Bhaktapur Durbar Square
We always save this one and guests always thank us for it. Bhaktapur is the best preserved ancient city in the valley. No main roads cutting through it, no rush, just old stone streets, pottery squares and temples that have been standing since the 12th century. The 55 Window Palace alone is worth the visit. And before you leave, try the local yogurt and you will thank us later.

Chitwan National Park
This is where a lot of guests tell us they had their favorite moment of the whole trip. You are deep in the jungle, it is early morning and a one-horned rhino is grazing about thirty meters from your jeep. Chitwan is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the finest wildlife reserves in Asia. Tigers, elephants, crocodiles, hundreds of bird species, the park has it all and every safari feels different.

Phewa Lake
We put you on a wooden boat, hand you a paddle and let Pokhara do the rest. Phewa Lake with Fishtail Mountain sitting behind it is one of those views that does not feel real until you are actually there. A simple boat ride here ends up being one of those memories guests mention long after the trip is over.

Sarangkot

We will wake up early for this one and we promise it is worth it. Sarangkot is a hilltop above Pokhara and at sunrise the entire Annapurna range lights up in front of you. Pink sky, snow peaks, total silence. People who have travelled all over the world stand up there and say they have never seen anything like it.

Davis Falls & Gupteshwor Cave
Not the most famous stop on the trip but one that always surprises people. Davis Falls is a waterfall that literally drops into a hole in the ground and disappears. Right below it, Gupteshwor Cave follows the same water underground through narrow passages and ancient shrines. Unusual, a little eerie and genuinely fascinating.

World Peace Pagoda
A beautiful white stupa sitting above Pokhara with the lake on one side and the mountains on the other. You can hike up or take a short boat ride across the lake and climb from there. Either way, when you arrive at the top and see that view, you will understand why someone chose to build a peace pagoda right here.

Accommodation and Meals on this Tour

On this 9 day Kathmandu Chitwan Pokhara Tour, we put you up in comfortable 3 star hotels in Kathmandu and Pokhara and a jungle lodge in Chitwan that actually feels like part of the experience. All our properties are well located, properly managed and give you a good base for each day without any hassle. Rooms are on twin or double sharing basis.

For meals, breakfast is included every morning to get your day going. Lunch and dinner are on your own and honestly we think that’s a good thing. Eating your way through Nepal is half the fun. From a simple plate of dal bhat at a local joint to a proper sit-down dinner by Phewa Lake, our guide will always point you towards the right places. You will never be stuck wondering where to eat.

If you have your own hotel preferences, that is completely fine. Just let us know and we will build the package around what works for you.

Transportation Service on the Kathmandu Chitwan Pokhara Tour

We keep things simple and comfortable. Throughout this 9 day tour, you travel in your own private vehicle with the same driver from day one to the last day. No shared buses, no waiting around, no strangers sitting next to you on a long drive.

The drive from Kathmandu to Chitwan follows the Prithvi Highway along the Trishuli River – green hills, small roadside villages and the kind of scenery that makes you forget you are on a highway. Your driver will stop whenever you want, whether that is for a photo, a tea break or just to stretch your legs.

Chitwan to Pokhara is another easy drive with the river following you most of the way. And the road into Pokhara itself gives you your first proper look at the Annapurna if the sky is clear, which is always a good sign for the days ahead.

The mountain flight from Pokhara back to Kathmandu is included and honestly it is one of the best parts of the trip. Twenty five minutes with the Himalayas right outside your window.

Airport pickup and drop off are both included, so from the moment you land to the moment you leave, we have you sorted.

Extend Your Adventure

Completed the tour? There is more to see.

Nepal has a way of making you want to stay longer. After nine days across Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara, a lot of our guests reach the last day and realize they are not quite ready to go home. Honestly, we get it.

If you are already in Pokhara, you are sitting right at the doorstep of some of the best trekking in the world. The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is a classic for a reason. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is shorter and the sunrise views from the top are hard to beat. For something a little off the beaten path, the Mardi Himal Trek is brilliant. And if you have the time, the Annapurna Circuit Trek takes you all the way around the range, one of the great walks on earth.

Back in Kathmandu, the options open up even further. Push east and head up to Everest Base Camp, the trek that needs no introduction or you can go quieter with the Langtang Valley Trek, less crowded and absolutely stunning. If history and culture is more your thing, a visit to Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha, is well worth the detour.

This 9 day tour is a brilliant starting point. Where you go next is entirely up to you and we will take care of everything from here.

Just get in touch and we will sort it out.
