Chitwan National Park Overview
Introduction
Chitwan National Park, established in 1984, is Nepal’s first national park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It covers a total area of 952.63 square kilometers within the subtropical lowlands of the Terai region. This park boasts an ecosystem of rich variety in wildlife and plant species, hence being one of the essential sanctuaries for flora and fauna alike. Besides, the park is more important than it is big, as it is a very important habitat for several endangered species: the Bengal tiger, one-horned rhinoceros, and even the gharial crocodile. These incredible animals, among many others, find their home in the different ecosystems that make up the park, including grasslands, wetlands, and dense forests.
Besides jungle safaris, the park offers a range of activities for visitors, including elephant rides, making it quite an exciting destination for nature lovers and enthusiasts of wildlife. Guided tours provide an opportunity to explore the dense forests and grasslands where the sightings of wild life, including rhinos and tigers, are a thrilling experience. It is also a favorite place for bird-watching because, within Chitwan, over 500 species of birds comprise rare birds as well as migrating birds. Not only do these wild animals view the cultural aspect with the Tharu local people in this park, whereby tourists learn traditional lifestyles and customs maintained for generations.
Chitwan National Park is not only a haven for lovers of wildlife but also a place of connection with nature and native culture. Its accessibility-just a few hours in driving distance from Kathmandu and Pokhara-makes it an easy stop for the tourist. If it is an adventurous safari, a quiet bird-watching excursion, or an immersive cultural experience, Chitwan offers a blend of each. It remains one of Nepal’s most celebrated destinations, attracting travelers from around the world to experience its incredible biodiversity and natural beauty.

Chitwan National Park FAQs
Why am I going to trek with Nepal Holiday?
Nepal Holiday offers experienced guides, excellent customer service, and local knowledge that can make your trek safe, enjoyable, and well-organized.
What are the other documents that I need to bring along for trekking?
You will be requiring a valid passport with six-month validity, a Nepal visa available on arrival or online, and permits such as the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) and TIMS card.
How to book a flight to Nepal, and what should I look out for?
Book international flights well in advance. Plan for extra days, in case flights are delayed-particularly for the return-as flight conditions to Lukla are very much weather-related.
What is the maximum altitude reached during the tour?
The park, which falls in the lowland of Nepal, is very famous for rich biodiversity and unique landscape. Starting at an elevation of 150-815 m (490-2,670 ft) above sea level, this is indeed a much lower altitude compared with the Himalaya treks.
What kind of altitude sickness can occur, and how to prevent it?
On the other hand, the weather for Chitwan is tropical: very hot in summer, generally from March until June, up to 40°C (or 104° F); by the time June hits, which goes through to September, a heavy monsoon rainfall makes it hard to sometimes pass through in certain trails or even roads.
What kind of weather should I expect during the tour?
The weather is never harsh during November to February winters, which thus makes the range of minimum and maximum temperatures revolve between 10°-25°c (50-77° F). This itself makes it a best time for visiting. At this time of the year, the park abounds with the flora and fauna. The Rhinos, Tigers, and most of the birds can be easily viewed in such congenial ambiance.
How difficult is the tour?
Difficulty around Chitwan National Park depends on the nature of the activity one engages in. Talking of guided jungle walks, jeep safaris, or canoe rides, for instance, it is generally easy to moderate since most people of any age and physical condition can enjoy such activities. The only problem could be the heat and humidity, making it feel a bit physically demanding, especially in peak summer months.
I have previously gone on a trek; will I need a guide?
Yes, compulsory but highly advisable for safety, navigation, and to enrich your trekking experience. Guides speak English and have local knowledge.
Do I need a visa to enter Nepal?
Yes, you can get a visa on arrival at the airport or apply online prior to your trip.
Is there any restriction on age to tour in Nepal?
There is no specific age limit, but to attempt this circuit your physical fitness level should be good enough. Consult your doctor if you’ve got health issues.
