A Day Chandragiri Hike Overview
Chandragiri lies 16 km southwest of Kathmandu at an elevation of 2,551 meters, and it’s a place that offers natural beauty and cultural importance. It hosts the Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple, established in honor of Lord Shiva, and offers breathtaking views of the Manaslu, Langtang, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishankar, and Everest ranges. The hill is accessible by a cable car ride, driving, or hiking, and for that fact, the hill has become more accessible and versatile for visitors. The cable car line, which is the second in Nepal after Manakamana, operates a 2.5-kilometer route from Thankot to Chandragiri in about 9 to 14 minutes.
The trek to Chandragiri is rewarding for any adventure enthusiast, starting with a 5-6-hour trek through dense forests rich in medicinal plants and bird life. Visitors can also take the car up and enjoy a panoramic view of Kathmandu Valley and its surroundings of the Himalayas. After spending some time around this hilltop, one could choose to either walk back down by the cable car or trek downhill by using stone steps. This hike is available for all age groups and can be done during any time of the year except during the rainy season.
Chandragiri Hill is also a place of immense historical significance. It is believed that Prithvi Narayan Shah, the unifier of Nepal, felt content to think about unifying the Kathmandu Valley from this very hilltop. His statue has been constructed here for the aforementioned reasons. The statue symbolizes the state formation of Nepal and has become a photo spot, as well as an important place for tourists interested in history and religion. Further developments on the hill have added zip lines, resorts, and an event hall.
Together with this historical and cultural importance, Chandragiri possesses a resort, hall facilities for conferences and programs on a national and international basis, and the adventure of a zipline to attract any stratum of visitor. Really a mild climate, fresh air, and scenic views offer alluring relaxation and recreational learning points; it will suffice your day-tripping from Kathmandu for sightseeing in such a tranquil region.
