Overview

Limi valley trek

Until recently, most visitors were unable to reach the remote Humla region of Nepal, which is located in the country’s far west. For hikers and those looking to experience the distinctive natural and cultural landscape of the Tibetan Buddhists, it is currently one of the ultimate trekking fantasies. The Karnali River, one of the principal tributaries of the magnificent Ganges that nourishes a large portion of the Indian subcontinent, leads us to the Tibet border during the first six days of the trek, passing through isolated Humla villages.

We will travel west for ten days, following the Limi River's course and the Tibetan border, after arriving at the tiny town of Hilsa. Encircled by breathtaking peaks, we will travel through uncommon Tibetan Buddhist settlements, encounter nomads and their animals, and take hot spring baths along the route.

We will be spending the night in tents during this trek. Experienced and dependable workers, such as cooks, porters to haul all the equipment needed for the trek and a few pack animals, will make up our group. We can assure you that this adventure will include top-notch camping gear as well as a wide selection of wholesome, delicious, and hygienic food.

This is a trek for true adventure seekers who don't mind roughing it in order to get a taste of remote, rural mountain people's lives in Nepal. It is considered moderate, requiring a reasonable level of fitness due to the occasional days of strenuous activity.

The remoteness of the Humla Limi Valley Trekking increases the likelihood of seeing both the uncommon and elusive snow leopards as well as blue sheep. This amazing hike brings to light a specific aspect of Nepal that is not often seen on hiking routes. It also provides an insight into Tibet's otherworldly realm without requiring one to travel through the formalities.

Trip Itinerary

Our personnel will be waiting for you at the airport with your name on a placard. He will pick you up from airport and transfer you to the hotel as per your preference. This day will be for your refreshment and in the evening you will be provided a guided evening walk to the local markets as well as localities to make you familiar with the Nepalese atmosphere.

We'll spend Day 2 of our journey getting ready for the thrilling Limiting Valley hike. We start the day with a thorough briefing about the itinerary, safety precautions, and what to expect on the trek. We'll make sure that everything is packed appropriately and ready for the trip, including necessities like water-resistant clothing, strong shoes, and appropriate attire. We will go over emergency protocols and navigational aids, and then have a group discussion to address any queries or worries. This preparation sets the stage for a safe and enjoyable experience in the breathtaking Limiting Valley by ensuring that everyone is prepared mentally and physically for the trek.

On the third day of your trip, you will fly from the busy metropolis of Kathmandu to the lively town of Nepalgunj, which is located close to the Indian border. This quick but beautiful flight provides a distinctive viewpoint of Nepal's varied landscapes, sweeping from the hilly Terai region to the valley's flat plains. As you arrive in Nepalgunj, you'll enter a region rich in historical significance and cultural diversity that acts as a gateway to the neighboring areas. Get ready for an enthralling investigation of this vibrant border town as we proceed with our journey.

Crossing the Terai and entering the Himalayan foothills. The 45-minute flight will be our first opportunity to see the lofty, snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. After arriving at Simikot, the hub of the Humla district, we will have time to stroll around this quaint little hill town and eat lunch that our crew has prepared. Following lunch, we will hike through the breathtaking Karnali River valley to Dharapuri (2,300 meters). We plan to camp near Dharapuri.

Today, we will travel through small Buddhist and Hindu villages as we follow the valley of the Karnali River. We'll camp high above the Karnali with breathtaking views of the valley and enjoy a hot lunch en route. There are little hot springs nearby (about a 30-minute walk) where we can unwind. The first entirely Buddhist village we will encounter on our route is Kermi. From here on, we will pass numerous smaller Buddhist settlements and villages, as well as their small temples, or gompas, roughly.

We mainly stroll alongside the Karnali River today as well. Along the route, caravans carrying goods from Tibet to the villages in Humla will pass us by. These caravans will be made up of mules, goats, and dzos, a crossbreed between yaks and cows. Along the route, we will stop for a hot lunch by the river, and then camp above the river beneath Namkha Khyung Dzong Gompa, one of the largest and most significant monasteries in the region, and a small village.

It's a walk to Talkot today. The trail will take us high, and the view will shift from thick forests to more exposed patches of sand and stone, interspersed with low shrubs. We can walk for thirty minutes from our riverside campsite to Dhungkar Choezon Gompa, one of the most significant monasteries in the area for the Sakya lineage of Tibetan Buddhism.

Below the Nara La Pass, we ascend very slowly and gradually until we reach a high point in a desolate area. We come to a dirt road about halfway through that was constructed to link the villages further down the area with the border between China and Tibet. We're going to camp this evening beneath the Nara La Pass, which offers stunning views of the valley.

It's going to be a hard day crossing the Nara La Pass. Vibrant Tibetan prayer flags, waving in the fierce wind, mark the pass and channel prayers into the surrounding environment. Enormous views of the mountains can be seen from the other side of the pass. We can see Tibet and the Limi Valley as we descend from the pass. After that, we descend steeply to Hilsa, a tiny town near the border between Tibet and Nepal. We will have our Camp in Hilsa.

We resume our ascent today, crossing the border into Tibet and entering the breathtaking Limi Valley. Manepeme Camp.

We start our long day by traveling to the little town of Halji, which is tucked in between a glacier to the north and snow-capped mountains to the south. Halji is an interesting place to stop along the way, with a long wall of mani stones and a beautiful gompa (Buddha temple). We take a lunch break shortly after leaving Menepeme and head to a camping area known as Halji, which translates to "hot springs." We have the opportunity to wash our clothes and ourselves in the natural hot springs that originate from the ground beneath our camp.  Set up camp in Halji.

Set out on an intriguing voyage from Halji to Gumbayak, a route that provides a special fusion of scenic beauty and cultural exposure. You will see the rough terrain of the Upper Humla region, with its imposing mountains and tranquil valleys, as you travel this beautiful trail. The route passes through charming towns where the Himalayan backdrop beautifully preserves traditional Tibetan culture. Admire the lively local communities and the elaborate monastery architecture as you travel. This hike will test your trekking abilities and give you a deeper understanding of the stunning scenery and rich heritage of the area.

The trek today, which will take you from Gumbayak to 4,200-meter-high Tankchhe, promises to be both rewarding and scenic. You'll travel through a variety of environments during the course of about six hours, from verdant meadows to untamed high-altitude landscapes. The air gets thinner as you ascend, and the expansive views of the surrounding peaks get more and more breathtaking. When you arrive at Tankchhe, you'll spend the night in a comfortable tent where you can savor the memories of your exciting day while gazing up at the stars. This overnight stay provides a rare opportunity to take in the peace and splendor of the Himalayas at their most breathtaking high-altitude point.

You will go on an exhilarating hike to the 5,018-meter-high Lapche-La Pass on your rest day at Tankchhe. You will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys after completing this strenuous 9–10 hour trek. Although the high-altitude climb to the pass requires endurance, the amazing views and sense of achievement make the effort worthwhile. Once your adventure is over, head back to Tankchhe and spend the night in a cozy tent beneath the vast Himalayan sky, where you can unwind and take in the quiet, high-altitude surroundings.

You will trek through an enchanting high-altitude landscape from Tankchhe to 4,900-meter-high Lapche Phedi, where you will spend the night at a stunning campsite. Once your tent is up, you can spend an evening taking in the calm, breathtaking views of the Himalayas. Get up early to see a breathtaking sunrise over the peaks, which includes the holy Mount Kailash, whose imposing silhouette is bathed in morning light. A truly remarkable highlight of your journey is the trek to Lapche Phedi, where you can witness the breathtaking scenery at both sunrise and sunset.

You will trek from Lapche Phedi to Talung, which is 4,100 meters above sea level and is also known as Limi Camp. You'll travel through a variety of landscapes in about six hours, from high-altitude terrain to the verdant, wide valleys of the Limi region. The striking views of the mountains give way to a softer, yet no less beautiful, landscape as you descend. When you arrive at Talung, you'll spend the night in a cozy tent where you can unwind, take in the peace of the surrounding forest, and think back on your exciting day in this lovely and tranquil setting.

Trekking today is an exciting adventure that takes you over the 4,988-meter-tall Nyalu Lagna Pass from Talung to Salli Kholsa. The nine-hour walk includes a challenging ascent to the pass, which provides breath-taking sweeping views of the untamed Himalayan terrain. The landscape opens up to the verdant, wide meadows of this high-altitude camp as you get closer to Salli Kholsa. You will spend the night in a cozy tent where you can relax and take in the tranquil atmosphere of the surrounding wilderness under the stars after a fulfilling day of hiking.

Trekking from Salli Kholsa to Kermi today is a delightful trip across a variety of landscapes. You'll gradually make the transition to the more temperate climate of the lower altitudes as you pass through gorgeous valleys and verdant forests as you descend from the high-altitude meadows of Salli Kholsa. The trail offers views of the breathtaking natural beauty and tranquil rivers and quaint villages while winding through them. When you arrive in Kermi, you'll be greeted by the friendly locals who are proud of their traditional Tibetan way of life and their natural hot springs—the ideal place to unwind and recuperate after your hike.

The 3,000-meter Hepka trek today departs from Kermi and passes through an enthralling terrain of verdant forests and picturesque river valleys. You will travel through a variety of landscapes, from open fields to lush forests, over the course of about seven hours, before progressively dropping down to the quaint village of Hepka. Beautiful scenery and the peaceful sounds of nature will greet you along the route, providing a calm atmosphere for your travels. After arriving in Hepka, you'll unwind and take in the tranquil atmosphere of the village while thinking back on a fulfilling day of exploration amid the breathtaking natural beauty of the area.

The walk today is 2,950 meters in elevation and passes through the gorgeous Humla region from Hepka to Simikot. You'll travel along a trail that meanders through verdant terraced fields and peaceful forests for approximately six hours before progressively dropping down to the bustling town of Simikot. As you travel, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys and far-off peaks, as the terrain changes from heavily forested to more open. When you arrive in Simikot, you'll be able to relax and take in the allure of the local culture while taking in the vibrant energy of this ancient trading center.

Once your hike from Hepka to Simikot is finished, you'll take a plane from Simikot to Nepalgunj. This scenic flight takes you from high altitudes into the subtropical climate of Nepalgunj, providing a breathtaking aerial view of the Himalayan landscape. After landing, you'll catch a flight to Nepal's energetic capital, Kathmandu. As you return to the center of Nepal, the drive from Nepalgunj to Kathmandu offers a breathtaking contrast, displaying the verdant, undulating hills and the energetic cityscape. This is where your adventure comes to an end and your journey home begins: leaving the remote trekking regions behind and entering the bustling city.

Visit famous sites like the historic Durbar Square or the ancient Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple) to fully immerse yourself in the city's rich cultural heritage.
