Overview

Everest Base Camp Trek 15 Days

Everest base camp trek is one of the most popular and iconic trekking routes that takes you to the base camp of Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world, located in the Khumbu region of Nepal. The trek offers astonishing views of the breathtaking peaks, including Mount Everest (8848 m), Nuptse (7861 m), Lhotse (8516 m), and many other snow- capped Himalayan mountains.

One of the major highlight of this trek is incredible view of Mount Everest- the highest mountain in the world at an altitude of 8848 meters (29029 feet) above sea level. In the nineteenth century, the mountain was named after George Everest, a former Surveyor General of India. The Tibetan name is Chomolungma, which means "Mother Goddess of the World." The Nepali sanskrit name is Sagarmatha, which means literally "Peak of Heaven." The first ever recorded people to climb Everest were Sir Edmund Hillary (a mountaineer from New Zealand) and his Tibetan guide Tenzing Norgay. They climbed the mountain in 1953 and hold the record together.

Everest base camp at an altitude of 5364 meters (17598 feet) is the starting point of mountaineers attempting to summit Mount Everest. As a long trek, followed by a hike to the much–awaited Everest base camp will start with making your way to Gorak Shep, taking small steps as the temperature keeps dropping, and the path gets tougher. After walking an hour and a half in the rugged terrain with gravel, icy slopes, and loose stones, you will reach in your destination Everest Base Camp. The welcoming views of the 8000 m mountains of the Khumbu region, dramatic views of the Khumbu Glacier and Khumbu Icefall will wash away all of the tiredness. Standing at the base camp provides a unique and awe- inspiring experience.

The Everest base camp trek is considered challenging but rewarding journey. The trail passes through Sherpa villages, glacial rivers, rugged mountain terrain and suspension bridges. Moreover, the trek also passes through Sagarmatha National park, a pristine area rich in biodiversity and home to various flora and fauna.
